Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield, based in Pittsburgh, PA, is replicating KidShape in Western Pennsylvania as part of a corporate-wide strategy to address overweight and obesity in the community. Highmark has programs operating in Pittsburgh through a partnership with Allegheny General Hospital and in Erie with a community hospital. More sites are planned for mid-2003. Northern California - Kaiser Permanente
Northern California is piloting the KinderShape®
and KidShape®programs
at numerous sites across Northern California. The program
is an important part of KP's pediatric overweight strategy
that focuses on building healthy behaviors at an early age
in partnership with the community. The program has already
run in Hayward, California and is scheduled to start in 2004
in Richmond, San Jose, South San Francisco, South Sacramento,
