Think Again! A recent study finds that "income and proximity to fast-food restaurants" are the "strongest factors in food choice" among residents living in lower-income areas. Allowing more grocery stores and supermarkets in underpriviliged communities simply does not suggest that residents living in these areas will make healthier food choices. This information is worth posting! Fast-food chains like Burger King, Denny's, IHOP, Chili's Chevy's, and El Pollo Loco, promise to offer "at least one children's meal that has fewer than 600 calories, no soft drinks and at least two items from the following food groups: fruits, vegetables, whole grains, lean proteins or low-fat dairy". Thanks to a new program in Whatcom County, Lynden resident Anna Jones and her 12-year-daughter, Amanda, are more active and have both lost weight. They plan to celebrate tonight by bringing fruit and vegetables to the KidShape program’s potluck finale.
