Who are we?



Dr. Naomi Neufeld, MD, FACE

Medical Director and a board-certified physician in Pediatrics and Pediatric Endocrinology, Dr. Neufeld founded KidShape in 1986 at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles. Dr. Neufeld received degrees at Brown University (Providence, R.I.) before graduating from the Tufts University School of Medicine (Boston, Mass).  After completing a fellowship at the UCLA Center for Health Sciences (where she received an NIH fellowship), Dr. Neufeld joined the full-time staff of Cedars Sinai Medical Center, serving as Director of Pediatric Endocrinology.  Currently, Dr. Neufeld is in private practice in Los Angeles. Dr. Neufeld is also a full professor on the clinical faculty at the UCLA School of Medicine.  

Dr. Neufeld is the recipient of numerous research grants and is the author of the chapter on childhood obesity in the Atlas of Clinical Endocrinology. She is a Charter Member of the American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists and serves on its board of directors and is a Fellow of the American College of Endocrinology. Through her research, she identified the relationship between childhood obesity and Type 2 diabetes. Dr. Neufeld has written more than 40 peer-reviewed research papers, book chapters, invited papers, and two books: KidShape and KidShape Café.


Dr. Chris Landon, MD

Board member, Dr. Landon is the Director of Pediatrics at Ventura County Medical Center, where he developed the Pediatric Diagnostic Center, a model program providing pediatric specialty care to the primary care medical community. In 1998 he and Dr. Neufeld were among the first to identify the early presentation of Type 2 Diabetes in Mexican-American youth (Diabetes Care, Vol 21, Issue 1 80-86). Dr. Neufeld and Dr. Landon have worked tirelessly in Ventura County to translate KidShape into application in the safety net population.


Dr. Beth Braun, PhD

Director of Behavioral Modification, Dr. Braun has been assisting in curriculum development and teaching at KidShape  since 1995.  Dr. Braun has worked in various weight loss camps and programs since 1992. Her PhD dissertation was on the effect of parenting styles on weight loss in the KidShape program  She lectures frequently at schools, universities, and hospitals in the Los Angeles area on the importance of healthy families and on emotional eating. She has appeared on Oprah, CBS Evening News, and ABC’s Primetime Investigates, as well as various syndicated radio shows.    She is in private practice in Los Angeles, specializing in children and families dealing with weight issues and as well as chronic illnesses.
